Last Monday I had the pleasure of speaking to the "Joint Undergraduate Mathematics and SIAM Chapter Seminar" at UMASS Dartmouth. SIAM is the Society for Industrial and Applied Math.
There were about 25 students that listened to my one hour presentation on land surveying and the various math applications that we get to use on a daily basis.

I did demonstrate the various tools of the trade, such as an older K&E Paragon Transit, my Leica TCR1105, and the Sokkia GSR 2700ISX GPS equipment.

I was concerned that I would not have enough to talk about for one hour, but I ran a little long! Once I get going on Land Surveying it gets hard for me to stop! The Professors took me out for a very nice dinner afterwards.

At our MALSCE meeting last thursday Ed Packard from the Mass Land Court joined us for dinner and made a presntation on the Land Court for those of us that showed up.

I spent Friday in Suffolk County Superior Court testifying on an adverse possession case. one funny moment when the opposing attorney tried to get me to testify to a plan prepared at my previous place of employment. I had not been involved with the plan since it was an engineering plan and not a survey plan, but he couldn't understand the difference between the Civil Department and the Survey dept. the funniest part was when he found my time on a time sheet and attempted to make me testify that the plan was prepared under my direction. However my time was after the plan date by one year! My involvment was after the fact!!!

This weeks news is a little light, but I will be out in the field somaybe some tales will be forth coming!
